JOYCE DEITCH

Inducted: 1984 -  Meritorious Service

Joyce began bowling in Walla Walla, Washington in 1949.  She was curious about the game and soon after moving to Boulder City, she joined her first league in 1953.  The following year, Joyce started her trek up the ladder of management by serving as a league officer.  Since that first office, Joyce has held virtually every league office for over 30 years.  Joyce joined the LVWBA Board of Directors in 1954 and has served on that board ever since, either as director, Secretary or Life Member.  The Nevada WBA was the next step in Joyce’ growth as an association leader.  She won election as Secretary the first time she threw her hat in the ring and held that position for six years.  Joyce served the NWBA as its President for eight years and managed to find time to help organize the Bowling Council of Nevada, the state Jamboree, serve as an officer of the Nevada YABA and helped organize the Silver State Bowling Writers.  At the 1973 WIBC convention held in Las Vegas, Joyce became the first Nevadan to be elected to the WIBC Board of Directors.  She continued her way up that ladder, and won election as WIBC President in 1993.   Her leadership roles in bowling have taken Joyce on trips all over the world.  She actively promotes bowling and its Olympic quest and she has won many awards for her leadership.  Joyce is known for her unassuming leadership manner.   Her light-hearted manner at the podium have earned her countless admirers while earning respect for her knowledge of running an organization.  Some of her fondest memories include each honor she has won and having an award named after her, the “Joyce Deitch Trailblazer” award.
