The 2nd Southern Nevada Masters was held in Oct. of 1978 at WEST HILL LANES.
For those of you who remember this center the shot was on the 1 board......It
had an amazing scary gutter shot as the closer to the 1 board you threw the
ball the chances were you would get a strike. This event had 43 entries which
prompted local officials to state they were going to look into whether they
would be running a 3rd event. The entry fee was raised $10 to $35 in 1978.
This event was actually advertised in all the local papers , television and
all local centers. Tournaments believed they should of had at least 70
entries. The funny part is that local association official JIM TINDALL said
that the 1977 event went $60 in the hole and the 1978 event was on the brink
of being in the red or just breaking even. To show some things never
change JIM TINDALL said that the majority of the bowlers entered in the 1978
event were 190 and under average bowlers and it was a very poor showing by the
HIGHER average bowlers.
The tournament qualifying leader was GEORGE PRATT. Masters finalists were
as follows:
- HANK MANCINI - $200
- GEORGE PRATT - $150
- FRED STROBLE - $ 110
