We have a new MASTERS champion in Southern Nevada
and its MIKE TAYLOR. Mike won the MASTERS title the hard way ......from the
challengers bracket. Mike lost his first match to MIKE TUCKER 450-452 and had
to work his way through the double elimination bracket by bowling the maximum
number of games Sunday - 18 to win the title. Even more unbelievable is that
MIKE won the masters title using a plastic and a 1960's rubber ball. Mike
played right off the edge all weekend and made those two balls look like any
of the $200 + bowling balls that everyone else was using. Last years
runner-up, ROD MCLEAN went undefeated in the winners bracket to earn another
shot at the MASTERS title. Rod was trying to avenge last years loss to ANDREW
GRAFF and this time coming from the winners bracket it looked like he was
going to do it. But MIKE TAYLOR was unstoppable in the
championship match beating ROD in match #1 -537-430 and in the final match -
494-443. Afterwards ROD commented that he had no problem losing to such a
great bowler. ROD also commented that MIKE will be a great
representative for Las Vegas in the 2009 Masters tournament. When match play
started Sunday morning, past Masters champion, JOHN DEBENEDETTA, looked like
he was going to repeat as he started his first match with the first 21 strikes
in a row rolling games of 300 and 278......a 10 pin in the tenth frame stopped
John from a shot a back to back 300 games.
The 2008 SNBT MASTERS tournament had a great
turn out of 78 entries with 16 bowlers advancing to Sunday's match play finals
and 3 more bowlers cashing. The field averaged 205 for the tournament.
The winner of the 2009 SENIOR MASTERS ENTRY went to DOUG TALSMA who was the
high senior in the 10 game qualifying. The winner of the 2009
QUEENS entry went to the only woman who has ever won an SNBT SCRATCH title -
ADRAINNE BARELA. Terry Leong ran a separate side pot to give away a 2nd
senior masters entry and the winner of that entry was ROD MCLEAN.
