SNBT / SNUSBC 2010 MASTERS CHAMPION

RUNNER UP - ALAN FREDERICK
This years SNBT / SNUSBC Masters tournament is in the books and we have a new Champion - MATT JONES. Matt qualified 1st in last weeks 10 game qualifier and went 4 -1 in this weeks 12 man bracket final. Matt's only loss was to runner - up ALAN FREDERICK who ironically wound up bowling Matt in 3 different matches. The first match was in round 6 with both bowlers undefeated at this point and bowled to see who was automatically seeded into the title match. Matt won that match rolling games of 211 - 214 = 455 to Alan's 189-166 = 355. That was Alan's first loss and sent Alan to the Losers Bracket. Alan's match in that bracket was one of the most anticipated matches of the day as it pitted Alan against the hottest bowler of the day the dangerous Eric Forkel. Eric lost his first match of the day to Les Shirwindt 479 to 448 and was sent to the losers bracket where he got red hot and in his first match and took down Lee Taylor 537-346.......next Eric beat Kyle King 542-398.....then Eric beat Don Moser 470-381.......next was Eric's closest match as he beat Joe Merrill 432-428........That set up the showdown between Eric and Alan Frederick.......In this match Alan eliminated Eric and sent him home with his 2nd loss on games of 252-226= 457 to Eric's 222-205=427....That gave Alan a second shot at Matt Jones as these two were the last remaining bowlers.......Alan showed why he is one of the toughest bowlers in Southern Nevada as he beat Matt on games of 246-211 = 457 to Matt's 174-172=346..... Matt looked really lost in this match and did not have a great look.....This set up their third match since Alan had to beat Matt twice to win the title.......In game 1 Alan struggled with just a 178 to Matt's 208 giving Matt a nice 30 pin lead going into the final game.....But as many of you know on a tougher condition no lead is safe and Alan found his shot again and reeled off a 247 game for a 425 total......Not to be denied, Matt found got things going and kept pace with Alan as Matt rolled a 239 game for a 447 series and a 22 pin victory. Matt Jones is the first bowler to lead the Masters Qualifying and go on to win the Masters title. Matt won $1200 + a 2011 USBC Masters entry plus he will receive a Championship Plaque and 2 tickets to next years SNUSBCA awards banquet. Alan Frederick received $950 for finishing 2nd in this years event. Finishing 3rd was Eric Forkel who cashed for $750. Below are some stats from this years Masters Finals:
The field average for all bowlers in this years Masters Finals was 215 per bowler.
Right hander's averaged 209 and Left hander's averaged 228 ( there was 9 righties and 3 lefties in the finals)
The 2010 Masters paid out $11,000 in cash and prizes.
As a bonus South Point provided the top 4 seeded bowlers with 3 day / 2 night stays at South Point.
South Point added $2500 to this years prize fund.
SNUSBC donated a 2011 Masters and Senior Masters Entry to this years event along with Championship Plaques and 2 tickets to each winner to next years Awards banquet.

Qualifying results below:
Once again we used the Kegel Pattern - SUNSET STRIP and just like in the past the field averaged 200 for the day......The Left hander's averaged 203 and the right hander's averaged 199.....In 3 tournaments so far this year this pattern has played exactly the same and all styles have an equal shot on this pattern. The high game of the tournament went to JOHN CONGRO who rolled a 299 game....next was Lee Taylor who had a 288 and Don Moser who had a 280 game.......Lee Taylor looked like he was going to run away with this event as Lee rolled 1187 for his first 5 games for a 237 average.....But as the lanes transitioned the next 5 games proved to be a challenge as Lee went 952 for the next 5 games with an almost disastrous 128 game in the 8th game before finishing strong with 204 and 236 to grab the 5th seed in the finals. Last year's Champion STEVE SMITH made a good run at returning to the finals but fell short by 7 pins....also just missing the finals was TOM ENRIGHT who needed to strike out in the 10th to grab the last spot by 1 pin but a solid 10 pin on his first ball cost him and he fell short by just 9 pins.
